Chicken Skewers
Cheap, a little bit unfresh, but completely edible and great with the atsukan (hot sake) I had.
Dishes:
Chicken skewers (tori kushiyaki) abound. They are cooked over high heat and allowed to catch on fire pretty regularly, not only making the place incredibly smoky because of the lack of ventilation, but also drying them out more than need be. The price was a tad high especially considering the slightly worse than average food.
It was a medium sized place that was only about half full. Of the 15 or so people in the room, I counted 0 women. There were some incredibly drunk men in the back drinking shochu that were talking VERY loudly about the foreigner drinking the atsukan. This is normal, and part of what I enjoy about izakayas. They weren’t as jovial as I have found in other locations, but they seemed harmless enough. Did I mention that it was SUPER SMOKY? Because it was.
Overall:
For a chicken skewer izakaya, I expect cheaper prices and better food. It’s worth a visit if you are close and don’t want to walk anymore but otherwise, seek greener pastures. This falls squarely in the median experience.
